Trouble planting my back foot to get full motion 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Im having trouble planting my back foot in my spin to get that full motion of the hips. I can throw about 140 with a standing throw and my PR with my full spin is about 161. How am i supose to speed up the second have of my spin?

I am not sure I fully understand your issue. Here is what I think you're dealing with and my suggestion.
"Your throw R and your R foot in the middle of the ring isn't doing a whole lot to add distance to your discus."

IF that's true and you want to find speed there are many things to look at.
1) Off balance leaving the back of the circle will compound problems in the front.
2) Moving your hips horizontally entering the power position instead of upwards.
3) You are too fast out of the back and don't have another "gear" to get into for the power position. SLow down out of the back and create torque and momentum entering the second spin. Try to ALWAYS leave a spin faster than you entered it.
4) Try to "pre-spin" your right foot landing in the center. Even 90 degrees would help you "work the ground" longer. Try to land your right toe facing 2 o'clock instead of 4 o'clock (if back is 12 o'clock).

Video tape yourself and look at what is not happening.

Good Luck!

Coach Morris gives great advice here. Expecially when it comes to the speed out of the back. Most often I see throwers pull the left arm out the back which throws them off balance through the rest of the throw. Let gravity work with your hip lean coming out of the back and keep your shoulders level through out the full throw.
